Prominent lawyer Asma Jahangir has passed away. Asma Jahangir died after a cardiac arrest last night. She was shifted to a private hospital but couldn’t make it. Asma Jahangir was former president of Supreme Court Bar of Pakistan, former chairperson of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan.
She was known for taking daring stance on the issues related to human rights, democracy & fundamentalism. She was a strong critic of military establishment in Pakistan & was often at loggerheads with pro-establishment parties.
Asma Jahangir is also known for leading the Lawyers Movement (2007) that ultimately led to the ultimate end of Musharraf regime. However, soon after the restoration of Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhary, she became a strong opponent of his judicial activism.
